How do I generate a value to add to a property file for multiple users using JBPM?

I am working on a use case where I need to add a new property to a property file, but the property will need to be “active” for multiple users.
If I just store the property in a file like:
org.jbpm.process.model.Path location;

Then I need to make sure that anyone who runs the process will have to overwrite it with their own path if needed.
I tried storing the property in a table (since it would be created in one go anyway) so that there would be a row for every user. Then I updated the property using the value stored in the row I wanted, but I cannot get the values to be “active” for multiple users.
How can I do this?

First of all, store your property in a database, or even better, in a LDAP database. This will ensure that no conflicting properties (in case of a conflict your process code will not be executed) will be retrieved. You can also make sure that your process are not executed by anyone that is not allowed (by id). This way you avoid collision between multiple users.
This is done via a lookup within your process runtime code. When your process is running you lookup the process and property for the executing user. There you find the location. If the user has access to it, the property becomes active. You can make it even more secure by setting a lockscope and making your lookup part of the database transaction.
A complete example could look like this:
