How to check if an Access database exists with Lua?
There are a lot of questions that ask how to check if a file exists using Lua, but the answers are usually conditional on the file extension (.txt,.log etc).
But in my case, I want to check for database files. My current method involves using the system module with a ton of global variables:

I’ve read the following post, but no clear answer as to how to use Lua to check if a database exists:

Any advice on how to improve this method is appreciated, though any advice will be great (even more simpler would be better 😀 ).
A:
Lua has no equivalent of system. This function list the remote hosts via a named pipe which contains the state of your network interfaces. The table returned contains the name and the status. This table is declared like this:
local _, families =…
Thus, _ will get a table containing two keys: “host” and “status”. These keys can be nil. If you inspect this table, you will see the list of network interfaces and the “state” of these interfaces. The interfaces which have more than zero “active connections”
