Human Sources of Information – bmoses
======

Great post. But I would add Google as a very useful source, either to validate
what I already know or to gain new knowledge.
As an aside, my mother would use the term “human sources” in place of “browsers”
because she associates it with the Amish and the Bible.

I’d add Wikipedia too. It’s not human, but the breadth of its data sources is
astounding.
I don’t understand why all the comments on HN seem to think these resources
should be excluded from lists of “human sources of information”. After all,
reading an encyclopedia, a book, or a newspaper are all forms of obtaining
information from human sources.

Wikipedia is definitely a source of information. But it is not a _human_
source.
How many of us are truly typing the same article with different sources on
Google in order to find the articles with the most accurate information?
Here, even if you remove the “human” and “source” from the word, Wikipedia
remains a source.

Some years ago I’d have said Wikipedia is a _very_ human source. Its sources
are predominantly human, though the articles are often annotated by
encyclopedists.
I wouldn’t say it is a source, though, as Wikipedia is designed so that
anyone can write an article. It’s not curated in any way, and it’s not very
informative about technical matters.

But Wikipedia is not a _human source of information_ as they themselves
explain on their front page:
“Wikipedia is a free, collaborative, multilingual online encyclopedia.”

Wikipedia is indeed a human source of information, but I think you’re missing

The D-Link wireless WiFi extender is a device that basically duplicates the access point functionality of a cellular phone, but on the wireless side. As such, the device can be used as a hotspot for a laptop or for home networks.
The majority of the models supported by the D-Link extender are equipped with a USB port and USB 802.11n adapters, but not all of them. The device is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7, as well as the majority of the smartphones.
The D-Link brand WiFi extender can be purchased in two forms: the smart mobile WiFi repeater and the standalone WiFi repeater. Let’s find out which is the right one for you.
Smart Mobile WiFi Repeater
For the most part, the Smart Mobile WiFi Repeater (MF1100) is the product that all other devices are based on. The device includes an access point, a USB port with the wireless adapter and is equipped with power saving options.
Wireless Wi-Fi connection with no cable
The device is capable of creating a hotspot in an area of 20 meters. Additionally, the repeater is able to work on cellular data networks. The price of the repeater is about $100, so the only reason to go for this device is if you plan to cover a large area.
Although the device is more useful for work trips, you might also use it on holidays to share data with your friends and family. You can attach the repeater to the USB port of your laptop or a smartphone, and you can also use it with a tablet.
Smart Mobile Wi-Fi Repeater: Pros
Multiple forms
Works with most smartphones
Cons
A bit expensive
If you only need a simple access point, the Smart Mobile WiFi Repeater will also meet your expectations. However, when it comes to multiple forms and smartphones, you might be interested in another device.
Looking at the competition, the prices of the actual repeaters are similar or better than those of the smart repeater. This means that if you
