atomic is fairly fast for read operations because it basically just reads the record from the database and returns it immediately. Two young women in New York survived super-duper scary falls when they fell hundreds of feet off cliffs.

The dramatic, harrowing fall happened Feb. 22 in Cattaraugus County, N.Y. The women, ages 22 and 18, and their companions were climbing the cliff face above the abandoned Palisades [N.Y. P13] ski resort in Fairmont, N.Y., when they dropped from a ledge, state police said.

The women landed in a snow bank next to a cliff and survived. The group then moved away from the brink, returning to the site later that day. The two women decided to hike down, and one of the women slipped and fell more than two-hundred-fifty feet, police said.

After the women were found by rescue workers, they were brought to an infirmary at the site. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

The group was able to ride a ski lift down, and the women were not injured. They left the winter wonderland on the morning of Feb. 24, when they were met by law enforcement officers, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
