I have the following table definition in Hive:

Now, for testing purposes, I have the following:
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM CustomerInfo;
The problem is that when I run this query, it returns zero, but the table itself has some rows.
How does this happen?
A:
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM CustomerInfo is actually selecting an array of your entire table. You have 0 rows, but 0 is one (very large) element in an array.
The value of the statement should have been exactly one. Did you use hive.execution.engine=”mr” or hive.execution.engine=”local”? With “mr”, you can have multiple databases (you can run SELECT * FROM db.table on the command line to see them).
If you do mean to count the rows, you would do COUNT(*)
