Image formats

You should be aware of the different file types available and how to save your images in them. Photoshop supports a wide variety of image formats:

* EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
* PDF (Portable Document Format)
* PSD (Photoshop Document)
* DNG (Digital Negative)
* BMP (Windows bitmap)

JPEG

JPEG is a popular bitmap format that is a subset of the TIFF standard. It is a file format for still images that is widely used for scanned images because it stores the color and brightness information of the scanned image while retaining the ability to edit the image file with the Photoshop program.

You can edit an image in Photoshop and then save it as a JPEG file to be sure that the color and brightness settings are retained, or you can save the file as a TIFF file.

GIF

GIF is the successor to GIF and is usually supported by image editor programs. It is a lossy bitmap format that is popular for animated files, especially for animations in web browsers. It is an easy format to use and edit.

GIF also uses a lossy compression method but is much smaller in file size than JPEG. However, GIF does not preserve transparency.

PNG

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is an Internet standard that enables the lossless compression of true-color graphics.

This format was initially created to reduce the size of the GIF format and to enable smooth and faster animations. You can use Photoshop to create a PNG file using the Photoshop Save for Web & Devices feature to optimize the file for use on the Web.

TIFF

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is one of the oldest and most widely used image formats. TIFF includes support for Photoshop’s layers

In this tutorial, you will learn how to edit and manipulate images in Adobe Photoshop Elements using the basic tools in the palette.

Step 1. Create a new document

While it is usually very intuitive to open up a file, it is also very easy to get stuck when you work in Photoshop Elements. You can copy/paste a photo or graphics right from your devices and directly into the document. Once you start working with a document, it is easy to want to make changes to a previous image from your device.

The most important thing to remember is that you want to create a new document each time you open Photoshop Elements. The easy way to do this is to select “New” from the File menu. You will get a prompt asking you where you want to create the new document.

Step 2. Resize a photo

Resizing images can be useful for several things, like creating simple thumbnails and social media graphics. When starting from scratch you can create a new document, then paste the photo that you want to work with into the document.

You can also choose to resize an image while it is already in your document. The common steps for doing this are as follows:

Make sure the image is at least 1075px wide. Select the tool you are using to resize the photo (the arrows in this example use the resize tool). Click on the side of the image where you want to end up and drag the slider to the right (or left) to resize the image.

Step 3. Rotate an image

Rotating a photo can be useful if you want the image to face a different direction, for example, to match a design on your canvas.

To rotate an image, you will need to make a copy of the image. Then use the Rotate tool from the Tools panel and drag it into a new (empty) document. The new document should have a copy of the rotated image attached to it.

Step 4. Rotate a layer

Layers can be resized and rotated in a couple of different ways. A layer can be resized by selecting it and using one of the options from the Resize tool. It can be resized by moving a handle on it and dragging it horizontally or vertically on the canvas. To rotate a layer, you can select it and use the rotate tool. “Ryan’s budget would essentially take us back to the policies of the 1990s, particularly for children and the elderly,” Crouch says.

The budget does make some important changes.

For example, the budget ends the so-called “marriage penalty,” which is a tax break for married couples that gives them refunds based on half their income. It’s considered to be a boon to high-income households because most of them are married couples.

Ryan’s plan would repeal the law, but the refund would be on top of the standard Earned Income Tax Credit, which has lower rates for higher-income earners.

Still, critics say the plan would simply maintain the status quo for the rich and leaves the poor and elderly out in the cold.

It still seems doubtful Ryan would get his way.

While his budget did get an initial vote of support from most House Republicans on Saturday, it was blasted by many GOP moderates and conservatives, who criticized the plan’s cuts and tax hikes.
