Recently I saw a series called Lord of the Fallen reaching new heights, as it captures the essence of the original game – the fact that it is a fantasy role playing game, but with a fresh spin that still includes a fantasy setting and atmosphere. But while Lord of the Fallen recaptures the essence of the original game, it builds off that with an even stronger narrative and visual style.

Lord of the Fallen is also not a blatant remake of the original game. In the leadup to the game’s release, it was one of the most hyped games coming out of the Nordic region, but the hype can not explain the game’s overblown press coverage. If you were to break Lord of the Fallen down to its most fundamental pieces, it would be a very simple game.

There are two characters, you don’t play one against the other, and there’s no combat. Instead of that, you fight against the environment and try to gain as much experience as possible. The main goal is to recover the fragments of the Pegasus by finding magic and combining them to create a new weapon.

All this sounds like an ‘action role playing’ game, where you are taking on the role of a ‘hero’ who’s still out of luck. But it is something special, and the reason why I enjoy Lord of the Fallen so much – the game is rooted in fantasy, but at the same time it still has the same quality as a modern video game. You walk around in a world with a reality-feeling atmosphere, enemies are lurking around every corner and the environment reacts to your actions. Even the smallest mistakes can cost you your life, just like in a fantasy RPG.

Playing this game was a feeling of sheer bliss for me. I could spend hundreds of hours exploring new places, fighting enemies and hearing the majestic soundtrack. The soundtrack of Lord of the Fallen is by far the best part of the game, because it truly captures the atmosphere of a fantasy land. Some people may not like the music in Lord of the
