The Photoshop Work Area
1. **Place your cursor over the** **_Layer_** **Windows panel in the upper-left corner of the screen**.

You can also create a new layer in several other ways. If you want to create a new layer directly above the active layer, click the New Layer button below the name of the layer in the Layers panel or its icon. Step 1: Choose your images
Open the right click menu on your mouse and select Load Image. Find the images that you want to use in this tutorial and open them in Photoshop Elements.
Step 2: Resize your images
The images that we will use for this tutorial are, left to right, a standard size, a portrait and an image that was taken in an ultra-wide angle lens. We will resize these images.
Open the image that you want to resize in Photoshop Elements. Next, click on the image and then click on the Resize and then Image Size button (see picture below).
You will see three options for resizing the image:
Standard Size
Resample Image
Auto
Click on the Auto option and it will automatically decide the image size and show the image in your photo.
Step 3: Merge overlapping images
The standard size option resizes an image by stretching the image vertically and horizontally.
In this tutorial, I will resize the image to a different size so that overlapping images don’t create a distorted effect.
To do this, follow steps two and three. On the Resize and Image Size drop down menu, select the box Merge Down:
Step 4: Create a painting effect
The PaintBrush tool can be used to create a simple painting effect. You can change the brush size and style, but you can also apply different patterns and paint strokes to the image. Follow these steps to create a simple painting effect.
First, click the PaintBrush tool in the toolbox and then click on the image that you want to work on. You can adjust the brush size, the pressure when painting and the brush style.
You can zoom in on the image to focus on the brush strokes.

CAIRO – At least 16 people were killed and more than 90 injured as gunmen stormed a mosque in central Cairo and started attacking worshippers on Friday, according to the health ministry and state media.
A photo circulated on Twitter showed gunmen shooting people inside the Al-Rabia mosque in Nasr City, a Cairo suburb, as worshippers tried to flee or escape with their belongings, including a baby stroller. The photo was shared by Al-Ahram newspaper, which said the shooting started inside the mosque shortly after noon prayers. Footage circulating online and on state TV showed three or four men with guns breaking into the building and firing at people inside.
Several police spokesmen said more than 200 people were wounded, including 11 who are in critical condition.
The state-run Al-Ahram newspaper, citing security and medical sources, reported that the gunmen shot a worshipper as he tried to escape, and then started firing inside the mosque, as the terrified worshippers fled and tried to escape.
“I tried to help some of the families and stay with them, but I saw some families fleeing outside and I left too,” a resident told Egypt’s state-run MENA TV. “The Islamic State was responsible for this, and it has claimed responsibility in statements it has released.”
The MENA TV footage from inside the mosque showed small groups of women, children and men inside the mosque. Medical sources confirmed to the Times of Israel that there were more than 20 wounded. One of the wounded, Manal Abdel-Alim, 32, was confirmed dead by Egyptian officials.
In a video broadcast on Egyptian TV, unidentified gunmen could be heard shouting in Arabic “Allahu akbar,” or “God is greatest,” in the background.
A man who was at the mosque told Al-Ahram that the gunmen yelled: “Allahu Akbar” as they opened fire. “I saw a woman who was about to give birth, and the gunmen approached and shot her in the stomach and took her baby,” he said.
The shooting attack came during a time when Islamic State fighters were attempting to take over large swaths of territory in Egypt’s northern Sinai Peninsula, where security forces have been battling them since August 2014.

As a firearms enthusiast I was disturbed to read this week that over 300 Porsches and other German luxury cars were burnt in a fire outside a fire station in the town of Bad Ems in Germany.
This fire occurred shortly before 9.00 PM on Monday when a collection of 170 registered cars and luxury vehicles (all with a market value of over €100,000) were parked in front of the fire station in the town of Bad Ems.
As we all know fires can easily start in well kept car parks. However, there are suggestions that the cars have been torched by animal rights activists.
Between the hours of 7.00 PM on Monday 22nd of March and 9.00 PM on Tuesday 23rd of March (including all nights and Monday) the vehicles were parked in the town’s parking lot were they ran the risk of being set alight.
Since it is illegal in Germany to cause a fire it is assumed that the car-torching, animal rights activists are receiving assistance from others and that this may be in the form of arson.
